Digitization of Education at the Centre of Excellence for Mining, Environmental Engineering and Resource Management (CEMEREM) receives a boost

Digitization of Education is a top priority of Phase III of CEMEREM Programme. The objective is expected to climax with the setting up of a state-of-the art digital classroom and the launch of online and blended programmes at Taita Taveta University to extend the regional reach of CEMEREM. This dream could be realised earlier than the hitherto planned schedule. This is due to equipment support, worth 26,343.72 Euros, received from DAAD through the DIGI-FACE Programme. Among the equipment provided are:

  • UPS
  • E-Proctoring Software

To fast-track the process of digitization of Education, Taita Taveta University has established a Directorate of Open and Distance Learning, headed by a Senior Lecturer, Dr. Godfrey Makokha. A number of staff have also been trained on various aspects of Digital Education. Academic Staff and students have been equipped with basic skills for online teaching and learning. In the coming months, further training of Academic Staff focusing on Content Preparation, Online Examination and effective delivery in online teaching will be rolled out, spearheaded by TU BAF and HTW, Dresden. Critical support is also expected from Nelson Mandela University, South Africa.
