Energy Modeling Platform for Africa (EMP-A) Workshop Brief

Through Catalyste+, the Simon Fraser University (SFU) School of Sustainable Energy Engineering, and the Taita Taveta University partnership, there has been a facilitation to attend the workshop ‘Energy Modeling Platform for Africa (EMP-A) that will take place in Nambia from 17th to 28th April 2023 at the University of Namibia (Main Campus) and funded by the World Bank. The following individuals have been successfully selected to attend the workshop;

  1. Benard Ouma Alunda Lecturer
  2. Dickson Wachira Student
  3. Ms Constance Jumba Student
  4. MS Ronnice Chepkoech Student SME
  5. Geoffrey Basil Mwango Student SME
  6. Nashon Adero Lecturer SME

The EMP-A workshop is a great opportunity to learn about energy transition in Africa and its aspects aimed at meeting the growing demand for low-carbon energy sources. Learning about the models will be an effective way to enhance our prediction mechanisms that will influence most decision-making processes.

Similarly, the EMP-A workshop is directly linked with the CLEWs modelling workshop for Taita Taveta County which will take place at Taita Taveta University between the 2nd and 5th of May 2023. The two are interlinked through the training sessions that will provide useful information on achieving sustainability in the energy sector.

Summarily, EMP-A is an avenue for learning about different energy modelling configurations so that we can understand how energy can be optimized to ensure sustainability. There will be rich information that will be imparted to other individuals within Taita Taveta University who will be interested in learning about energy modelling.
