CEMEREM Objectives and Research Topics
CEMEREM is a joint project between Taita Taveta University (TTU) of Kenya, TU Bergakademie Freiberg of Germany and University of Applied Sciences, Dresden, also of Germany. The Project focus is Mining, Environmental Engineering and Natural Resource Management. The German Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs through DAAD funds the project.
Scholarship opportunities
There are few full and partial scholarship opportunities available for Master students in CEMEREM on a competitive basis for eligible candidates that will be granted to successful applicants from East Africa starting in September 2020. The scholarships include a stipend and tuition fees for up to two years (2nd September 2020 – 31st August 2022).
Who Can Apply?
The CEMEREM scholarship programme is open to candidates from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan, Rwanda and Burundi. Applicants must be holders of a Bachelor’s degree with at least Second Class Honours (Upper Division). The applications are open to those seeking scholarships as well as to those sponsoring themselves. Be a holder of a Bachelor of Science degree with at least Second Class Honours (Upper Division) in any of the relevant Engineering fields from a recognised university such as Mining, Mineral Processing, Environmental, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Civil and Construction, Electrical, Process, or Geological Engineering. |
3 | Master of Science in Mining Engineering
Duration: 2 Years

(i) Be a holder of at least a Second Class Honours (Upper Division) BSc degree in Mining and Mineral Processing Engineering; Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geomatic Engineering, or any related Earth Sciences from Taita Taveta University, OR
(ii) Be a holder of at least a Second Class Honours (Upper Division) BSc degree in a field in Engineering, Geology, Geophysics, Geochemistry or Environmental Science from any other institution recognized by the University Senate as being of equivalent academic status to (i) above, OR (iii) Be a holder of a Second Class Honours (Lower Division) BSc degree in the relevant field from Taita Taveta University or from any other institution recognized by the University Senate as being of equivalent academic status and who, in addition, must show proof of either two years relevant experience and or of academic advancement through research and publication since graduation with the bachelor’s degree or a postgraduate Diploma in the relevant field, OR (iv) Be a holder of other qualifications recognized by University Senate as being equivalent to (i), (ii), and (iii) |
4 | Master of Business Administration (Natural Resource Management)
Duration: 2 years.

Be a holder of a Bachelor’s degree with at least Upper Second Class Honours in any discipline or its equivalent from an institution recognized by the University Senate, OR
Be a holder of a Bachelor’s degree with Lower Second Class Honours in any discipline, provided the candidate can show proven evidence of research ability or three (3) years relevant experience in a relevant field, OR Be a holder of a Bachelor’s degree at Pass level in any discipline from a recognized University with five (5) years post qualification experience. If less than five (5) years, the holder must have a Post Graduate Diploma with Credit in a relevant field from Kenya National Examinations Council or any other institution recognized by the University Senate. |
Duration of the Programmes and Language of Instruction
The programmes shall run for two academic years on a full-time basis and shall be taught in English.

For each Programme with scholarships, few scholarships will be availed. However, self-sponsoring candidates wishing to pursue the same programme are welcome to apply for positions detailed below:

Notification and Acceptance
Only successful applicants will be notified, on or before 19th August 2020. Candidates must confirm their acceptance of the admission and/or scholarship award by not later than 26th August 2020.
Commencement Date of the Programmes
The commencement date for ALL the programmes is 2nd September 2020. All candidates will be enrolled at Taita Taveta University at its Main Campus situated in Voi, Kenya.
